Family had their window broken over pro-Palestine kite

A Muslim family spoke of their shock after a vandal broke a window from where they hung a pro-Palestine kite last night in the Haringey area of London.

Speaking to Tell MAMA, they described hearing a “massive thud” at around 9:30 pm on May 1 and soon discovered the vandalism, adding the anguish of knowing that someone targeted them for supporting Palestine

The rock shattered the first pane of glass, but the family must now replace the window as it damaged the middle pane.

Photos shared with us reveal the damage to the window. To help raise awareness, they agreed for us to tell their story anonymously and won’t let the incident stop them from supporting the Palestinian cause.

A photograph of the broken window shared with Tell MAMA shows where they hang their “Free Palestine” kite.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police took a statement from the family, and the investigation is ongoing.

Tell MAMA will liaise with the police further to ensure a hate crime investigation follows.

In recent months, from our statistical bulletins to news articles, Tell MAMA documented case studies that highlighted the targeting of Muslims when expressing support for Palestine. In November, we wrote about the targeting of a Muslim family who hung a Palestinian flag, which they took down after someone put a firework through their letterbox.
