Police appeal after Muslim mother racially abused and her son spat at in Trafford Centre

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have released CCTV of a woman they wish to speak to in connection with an anti-Muslim hate crime which took place at the Trafford Centre on November 10.

We have been supporting the family after the incident was reported to our service in November and liaising with GMP on their behalf.

Tell MAMA published a story about the racist abuse against the family and the assault on her 11-year-old son last month.

Police have said the family were shopping at around 6:40 pm when the incident took place near the John Lewis store, as they had stopped at a giant novelty Christmas tree nearby.

PC Ian Underhill, from GMP’s Trafford division, urged shoppers who witnessed the incident, or anyone with information to come forward and help the investigation.

“Nobody should be subject to the tirade of abuse that this mother and her children had to endure while they were enjoying the day together,” he said.

“We have released an image of a woman we wish to speak to in connection with this incident and are asking for anyone who can help identify her to please get in touch.

“Hate crime is, without question, something that will never be tolerated in Greater Manchester and I’d encourage anyone who saw something that could help with our investigation, share this with police as soon as you can”.
